Yesterday I visited The National Gallery in London. I’ve always liked, ‘A Young Princess’ by Jan Gossaert and to my delight when we came upon it in the Gallery my four year old daughter was so taken by it she immediately had to have a go at sketching it. Disappointingly one of the security guards told us she was not allowed to use her watercolour set as there is a strict policy of no items containing liquids to be used in the gallery so she had to cut her painting short. She only had a waterbrush type that holds a minimal amount of water inside it’s handle, but it was still prohibited. We had a lovely day, coming home quite late, but happily with a couple of sketchbooks purchased in the gift shop for £7, and a tiny one for £3.50 – total bargains as they are nicely made with lovely thick paper. Can’t wait to try them out.
Anyway, today I’ve decided to have a go at sketching ‘A Young Princess’ myself. So far it’s a work in progress. Hopefully tomorrow the sketching stage will be complete making way for the addition of colour in the form of watercolours.
Come back tomorrow to see the results :-)
